Birmingham Food System Strategy have announced two grants.
- The Affordable Food Infrastructure Fund – grants of £3,000 available to foodbanks and other projects supporting vulnerable citizens to enable them to purchase equipment that will increase access to affordable food.
- Birmingham Local Food Legends Fund – grants of £5,000 available to non-profit and community organisations for initiatives that improve the health and sustainability of our city’s food system, e.g. skills and knowledge, food growing, waste and recycling projects.
The latter, in particular, may be of interest to allotments.
To celebrate the launch of the Birmingham Food Revolution in 2023, the Birmingham Food Legends Fund has been created. This is a grant scheme to support initiatives which fit into our vision of creating a fair, sustainable and prosperous food system and economy, where food options are nutritious, affordable and desirable so everyone can thrive. Grants of up to £5,000 will be available, though we may accept applications above £5,000 if the proposal will have a significant impact on the Birmingham food system.
We will accept applications from not-for-profit organisations whose on the ground work/activities are based in the Birmingham local authority area, such as community groups (including those relating to growing, food provision e.g. community cafés, and composting), Business Improvement Districts, schools, and other organisations in the food sector. Please note that private companies and sole traders are not eligible for this grant. We are looking for specific, actionable and timely proposals which, if funded, can move at pace to start work on their proposed projects by the end of March.
The full details, including the application form and examples of the sorts of projects which will be funded through this grant scheme, can be found here.
Please get in touch with the council at foodsystemPH@birmingham.gov.uk for more details on both of these grants, including if you aren’t sure which to apply for with your proposal.
Deadline: Midday on 10th March 2023.
