On 29th November 2021 it was announced that hens needed to be kept under cover to stop the spread of avian flu. DEFRA has been monitoring outbreaks. Here in Birmingham flocks of birds in local parks, such as Cannon Hill, have suffered outbreaks. There is currently no date for when the housing order will be lifted.
This housing order is a legal requirement.
If you keep hens or other poultry on your plot you can register with DEFRA so that you will receive SMS updates on situations like Avian Influenza.
